There are currently about 124,000 American children that have been legally removed from their families in the US due to neglect or abuse.
While about 60% of them may be adopted by their foster families, the remaining children can only wait and hope for their American dream. Our mission is to provide prospective adoptive families with enough information to access the photographs of the children currently in the various state systems.
AdoptAmerica is an easy, user friendly site, for American families, to find photo listings of children waiting for adoption. The average child languishes in foster care for about 5 years before they are noticed by an adoptive family. We also guide the families to the Heart Gallery of America and to Wednesday's Child Television web sites.
If you feel an emotional attachment with a child's photograph and their biography, please see the contact information in that state site and contact them. The state social services will take the process from there. You may adopt from a state other than your own.
Yes, you may adopt siblings.
Cost: That varies from state to state. Generally the state will help to defer the cost. Also if there is medical or psychological expense in the ongoing care of the child the state will usually give financial assistance.. Later, if the child qualifies to attend a state college, many of the states will assist in that expense as well. But we make no claim as to what each state will offer.
Time: It varies from state to state and is case by case. Usually it is reasonably quick. After the families complete a home study and instruction you may have the child in a foster capacity as a foster parent until the final paper and court work is done.
Object: The purpose is to find qualified, loving, responsible homes with parents of high character for as many of these children as fast as reasonably possible. We do that by taking you to their photographs as quickly and easily as possible hoping families will make a connection with a waiting child's photograph.
